Brevard County Florida Small Business Community
As my husband and I moved to Brevard County Florida in 2005 to open up our
plumbing company
in Palm Bay we were positive overwhelmed of all the business support we received and could take advantage of. Especially the Small Business Development Center at Brevard Community College, the
Women's Business Center at FIT
, the BNI Business Networking International, and the
local chambers of commerce
really helped us a lot to establish our business in the local business community.
Women's Business Center at FIT Florida Institute of Technology:
The
Women's Business Center at FIT
provides great online and on-the-campus at the FIT Florida Institute of Technology classes that offer everything from computer software programs, grants and loans, marketing, business planning and business management information, and many more. But honestly, I love the most the monthly networking for women events with local speakers. It is a mix between a business and social get-together with networking opportunity and very informative input. Donn Kermani and her team organize all these classes and events, and they do an awesome and professional job! I like to educate myself and read
business networking articles
too but it isn't the same as "really" meeting people. You can read a lot but you have to "explore" it to really understand.
SBDC Small Business Development Center at BCC Brevard Community College
We found the Florida Small Business Development Center at Brevard Community College through a wonderful retired professional who works as a volunteer for SCORE (Counselors to America's Small Business). We met the director of community & professional education in our first class, and I have to say, Victoria Peake is wonderful. Her job is to assist entrepreneurs and to offer support through counseling, seminars, and workshops. Ms. Peake helped us a lot to establish our business plan and goals and to find the first networking contacts in Brevard County Florida. The SBDC at BCC also offers seminars to assist you by starting your business, business management, business financing and bookkeeping, business taxes, marketing and sales, product innovation, and many more.
Local Networking and Referral/Leads Generating in Brevard County, Florida
How I learned to network and to generate referrals and leads? I guess looking back it was the hard tour but it was fast and very efficient. We choose BNI Business Networking International and the
local chamber of commerce
to learn more about networking and to get known in the business community in Brevard County Florida. After around three months, I was the president of a BNI referral group and an ambassador for a
local chamber
. It was not so much my choice, more how it worked out. Nobody wanted to do it, and I thought that I could only learn. By taking over positions and responsibilities, I would have to learn it fast and getting good in it too.
What
networking sites or online groups
helped or help you to improve your networking skills?
Perhaps you ask,
"What is business networking?"
To answer the question in one sentence: To build a network of professionals around you, to share information and referrals, and to build your support team.In general it takes up to seven times before your conscious reaction or behavior changes to a subconscious reaction/behavior. If you don't think about if you like to meet new people or to do networking, "magic" will happen. You get used to it, and it is getting easier and makes more fun. Learning networking and improving business skills and knowledge could open new "business doors" for you. The business community in Brevard County Florida is a place where you can "work, live, and play". You never know what is waiting for you around the next corner, right? Good luck to you if you start a business or relocate your business to Brevard County, Florida or another area. Don't forget, there is no excuse NOT to take advantage of your local resources.
